Sr. Financial Analyst

US-IA-Cedar Rapids

United Fire Group is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst responsible for assisting with the preparation and analysis of internal and external financial statements, treasury management, cash flow forecasting and implementation of systems and projects.

  • Assistance with preparation and analysis of internal and external financial statements and supporting schedules under regulatory and GAAP financial standards.
  • Investment back office investment accounting and research for Investments in Bonds, Stocks, and other invested assets including reviewing NAIC designations and inputting transactions into Investment Accounting System (FIS).
  • Researching and monitor compliance with current regulations and insurance codes.
  • Liaison for various investment custodial relationships.
  • Assist with cash management and cash flow forecasting and financial modeling.
  • Financial projects.
  • Assist with implementing and testing of IT projects impacting areas of the finance department
  • Provide financial analysis support to the Treasury area.
  • Monitor Special Deposit situations for impending maturities and arrange replacements
  • Process wires/transfers
  • Monitor foreign accounts and transfer to/from as needed
  • Monitor investible funds across all companies in the group and communicate status with management



  • A four year degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA preferred.


  • 6+ years of experience in investment accounting, financial reporting or treasury management.
  • Insurance Industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience using a Bloomberg terminal is a plus. 

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Knowledge of statutory and generally accepted accounting principles, financial statement preparation, and insurance industry experience is a plus.
  • SEC reporting, and/or regulatory insurance reporting a plus.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of treasury management
