Overview:

Are you ready to be part of a cohesive, enthusiastic and supportive team and show just what a champion you are in Commercial Lines Underwriting? In this critical role located in a Philadelphia suburb, you would be responsible for analyzing and evaluating commercial risks by applying your professional knowledge of the technical aspect of commercial insurance. The responsibilities will include having to review, accept, reject and modify agency middle market and large account submissions, renewals, endorsements and other requests in accordance with Company guidelines and standards and communicate these decisions in a clear, concise manner. You’ll be counted on to demonstrate your exceptional interpersonal and professional skills by effectively maintaining agency relations.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a commercial underwriting territory of $5 to $12 million
  • Attain positive results for premium growth and acceptable loss ratios, through sound risk selection
  • Review and evaluate risks and coverages of new and existing middle market and large account commercial lines requests adhering to insurance principles and Company guidelines
  • Participate in the issuance of policies
  • Communicate with agents concerning the decisions of submissions, the explanation of new and existing products and services as well as other data relevant to departmental activities
  • Work with agents and CSR’s to obtain a saleable program for the agent/insured while avoiding adverse selection against the company
  • Maintain accurate file documentation of decisions made
  • Apply proper judgment in the pricing of products within the predetermined authorization and ensure proper documentations for risks requiring managerial authorizations
  • Assist in developing new products which contribute to growth and profits
  • Assist Marketing Department in achieving and relaying Company goals and new products or procedures internally and by agency visitation

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years’ experience working as a Commercial Lines Underwriter which must include working with middle market or large accounts.
  • Must have, or working towards, CPCU, AU or CIC designation
  • A four-year college degree or equivalent insurance experience
  • Solid knowledge of commercial ISO insurance forms, coverages and contracts
