UFG is looking for an ambitious, career-minded individual with a strong data analytical aptitude and outstanding people skills for a professional Data Analyst Co-op/Internship. Get a head start with this internship as the hours during the semester are flexible/part-time while moving to full-time in the Summer.

 

The Data Analyst Intern supports pricing of commercial P&C insurance lines of business utilizing accepted statistical/actuarial standards, methodologies, and knowledge gained through on the job training.  They work closely with their Analytics Manager and to develop appropriate pricing and underwriting strategies to support business goals. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conducts reviews of rates for assigned states and product lines, analyzing profit and loss results, past and current trends, projecting underwriting losses and reviewing competitiveness of rates
  • Completes detailed analyses, makes recommendations, and prepares rate package proposals for key business partners 
  • Supports the development/design of predictive models, working closely with data scientists
  • Prepares internal and external communications, including interactions with regulatory authorities and management that will describe and support rules and rate changes

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in related field of study such as actuarial science, or statistics/applied statistics
  • Applicants should possess proven technical and analytical abilities, leadership potential, innovation, creativity and superb communication skills. 
  • Standard knowledge in the use of data sources and applications to conduct research
  • Strong working knowledge of data analysis
  • Ability to analyze data and review analysis from others and identify and resolve basic data issues
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels
  • High level organizational and project management skills in order to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner and to monitor processes throughout a team or department
  • Strong decision making skills
  • Works effectively in a team environment
  • Experience working with SQL, SAS, R languages preferred
  • Applicants with 6 or more months of actuarial or related analytical experience (not required)
  • Successful completion of one or more actuarial exams (not required)
