Data Architect

The Data Architect will design, implement and support data warehousing and the development of information management solutions in support of UFG’s strategic plan. This position will work closely with business units throughout the organization to design and implement data strategies that support the democratization, integration, and standardization of data at an enterprise level, ensuring consistency of business definitions and data quality. This position requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as proven experience in data management, information management, and the insurance industry in general.

  • Participate in data strategy and road map exercises, data architecture definition, business intelligence / data warehouse product selection, design and implementation
  • Play key roles in large projects such as Data Architect, Data Modeler, and Technical Lead.
  • Participate and provide technical leadership in all phases of a project from discovery and planning through implementation and delivery
  • Work through all stages of a data solution life cycle: analyze/profile data, create conceptual, logical & physical data model designs, architect and design ETL, reporting and analytics solutions
  • Wear many hats and gain experience with tools, technologies and platforms across many technology stacks
  • Work closely and share ideas with fellow Analysts, Developers and Project Managers
  • Manage and design the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata
  • Integrate new data management technologies and software engineering tools into existing structures
  • Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Mentor other team members, including consulting or outsourced resources as needed on BI architecture best practices

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in architecture, design or development of enterprise data solutions, applications and integrations
  • Microsoft BI Engineer Certified, preferred
  • Knowledge of data architecture and design patters and the ability to apply them
  • Hands-on experience with modern enterprise data architectures and data toolsets such as data warehouse, data marts, data lake, dimensional models, modeling tools and profiling tools
  • Hand-on experience with the Microsoft BI stack specifically SSIS & SSAS
  • Ability to analyze existing tools and databases, and provide recommendations
  • Experience conveying recommendations and relevancy to the customer with a consultative approach
  • Experience in methodologies and processes for managing large scale databases on premise as well as cloud solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in handling large datasets, structured and semi-structured data formats
  • Strong analytical thinking as well as verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to deliver incremental value via an Agile Development Methodology
