Staff Accountant

US-IA-Cedar Rapids


UFG is looking for a Staff Accountant to maintain general ledger account balances in conformity with Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  This role prepares accurate monthly financial reports and accounting summaries. Examines accounting documents for accuracy and ensures compliance with policies and procedures and accounting standards. We are looking for someone with an eye for detail, ability to work in a team setting, and ready to take their career to the next level

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual statutory and GAAP financial statements
  • Record monthly journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts

  • Prepare supporting schedules

  • Assists in preparation of accounting reports and reconciliations
  • Accumulate and analyze information from various internal systems to develop financial and managerial accounting information

  • Complete a wide variety of forms and reports for a number of regulatory authorities

  • Participate in accounting projects

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance 
  • One to three years of financial accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations that apply to accounting and compliance.
  • Experience with spreadsheet software packages.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, and manage projects.
  • Strong organizational skills.
